A NEW service has been opened by the multi-purpose carrier, Ahrenkiel Liner Service connecting SA with the Indonesian island of East Timor.
This is being offered with direct shipment to Singapore, and a transhipment agreement from there with the Ben Line agency's principal, Clipper Elite Carrier, through Jakarta and on to E Timor.
This, said ALS' Terry Harding, was effective from April 14, offering transhipment from Jakarta on a fortnightly basis, and open to project, breakbulk, container and aid cargoes.
The motivation for ALS opening this niche market destination has been the recent visit of an East Timor delegation to SA, Harding added. We feel that this might very well generate some business between SA and this Indonesian island, he said, and well worth us opening a service to cope with any traffic.
