Because of volume increases through the Port of Walvis Bay and the resulting land-side demand for hinterland haulage, a request for fleet assistance has been issued by one of the biggest operators in the region – BHL Group.
In a message posted on social media, Buks Jansen van Rensburg, the founder and CEO of Buks Haulage Limited, said: “We need 300 additional trucks to move product between Walvis Bay and Zambia.”
Jansen van Rensburg said the company had 100 000 tonnes to move in three months.
“Backloads are also available,” he said.
Industry insiders operating in the Copperbelt have said that mining supplies and bulk liquids such as sulphur are on the increase through the Namibia deepwater port.
The Walvis Bay Corridor Group has also backed reports that fertiliser imports destined for Zambia through Walvis are on the increase.
Transporters interested in collaborating with BHL Group must have trucks registered in Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
