GENERAL NOTICE 495 OF 1997 NOTICE OF AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE ALLEGED SUBSIDISED EXPORT OF PORCELAIN INSULATORS ORIGINATING IN INDIA Petition The petition was lodged by Cullinan Industrial Porcelain, the local manufacturer of the products in South Africa. The petitioner alleges that the Indian government subsidises porcelain insulators in the form of a deduction equal to 100 per cent of the export profits in computing the company’s taxable income.

Product The product being investigated is porcelain insulators, classifiable under tariff subheading 8546.20.10.

Subsidised export Based on the available information, the subsidy was calculated to be 31,64 per cent of the export value.

Material injury and causality The petitioner alleges that the domestic South African industry is suffering material injury owing to the importation from India of subsidised porcelain insulators.
