The logistics sector in the UK has voiced growing concern about the preparedness of the country to deliver a functional border between the UK and EU traders from January 1 - the transition date for Brexit.
So much so that a collective of key industry bodies has called for a roundtable meeting with MP Michael Gove, the Chancellor of the Exchequer and Secretary of State for transport.
They believe that there are several gaps which, if not addressed, will disrupt UK business and the supply chain.
“The Covid pandemic has demonstrated to both Government and the general public the importance of a free-flowing supply chain - and with transition occurring at the same time as a potential second Covid spike it is critical we ensure the supply chain is protected,” they point out.
Their raft of concerns include issues like systems readiness, border infrastructure, and border inspection posts.
“We are asking you to take seriously our concerns and listen to the detail during this roundtable so that we can collectively help Government manage through this enormous challenge with as little disruption as possible.”
