Despite the many economic, social and political challenges facing Zimbabwe, the country rose 15 places in the 2019 World Bank Ease of Doing Business ranking.In 2019 it was ranked 140 among 190 economies – up from 155 in 2018.This put it among the top 20 business reformers in the world.Zimbabwean exporters are at an advantage over their South African neighbours in that it costs US$857 less to export from Zimbabwe than South Africa.Importers in Zimbabwe pay US$437 less for border and documentary compliance, according to the 2020 World Bank “Doing Business” index. But, where the South Africans have an advantage is the time taken to export (160 hours vs Zimbabwe’s 187 hours) and import (309 hours for a Zimbabwe importer and 123 for a company in South Africa).
