A gold mine near the city of Kwekwe, central Zimbabwe collapsed on Wednesday, February 6, leaving 20 miners trapped underground.
Police in Zimbabwe confirmed that two miners had been recovered as rescue efforts at the mine continued.
In February last year, several miners were trapped after tunnels flooded in the west of the Zimbabwean capital, Harare. Twenty-four bodies were later recovered and eight people were rescued.
With the African country already facing severe foreign currency shortages, President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced last year that he was looking to mining exports to salvage the economy.
However, reports suggest that miners in the country are often ill-equipped.
