On 11 July 2025, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) announced an increase in the rates of customs duty in Schedule No 1 Part 1 to the Customs and Excise Act, 1964 (Ordinary Customs Duty) in terms of the existing variable tariff formula. The rates of customs duty in tariff subheadings 1001.91 and 1001.99 increased from 54.95c/kg and 82.42c/kg, while the rates of customs duty in 1101.00.10, 1101.00.20, 1101.00.30, and 1101.00.90 increased from 85.15c/kg and 127.72c/kg.
