Sars on 19 June 2015 published the increase in rates of customs duty [General or Most Favoured Nation (MFN); European Union (EU); and the European Free Trade Association (EFSA).] excluding the Southern African Development Community or (SADC) for wheat and wheaten flour, classifiable in Tariff Chapters 10 (Cereals) and 11 (Products of the Milling Industry; Malt; Starches; Inulin; Wheat Gluten).
The rate of customs duty is increased on tariff subheadings 1001.91 (seed) and 1001.00 (other), as well as 1101.00.10 (brown wheaten meal produced by the milling of whole grains, excluding separated wheat bran, separated wheat germ or separated wheat semolina or endosperm) and 1101.00.90 (other). The increase in the rate of customs duty for the first two tariff subheadings is from 46.1c/kg to 80.01c/kg and the third tariff subheading from 69.2c/kg to 120.02c/kg. The tariff amendments are in terms of the existing Variable Formula Tariff, the reasons for which are substantiated not in an International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (Itac) Report, but an Itac Minute (M02/2015).
