A NEW weighbridge and roadworthy checking facility on the Bayhead Road into the Durban container terminal is proving a killer for the operators of roadgoing wrecks, according to Paul Rayner, chairman of the Durban harbour carriers section of SAAFF (SA Association of Freight Forwarders).
These unscrupulous operators have been decimating the market with cut-throat prices, he said, while ruining road surfaces with badly-maintained, and overloaded vehicles.
They are also accidents waiting to happen, Rayner added, and put valuable cargoes at high risk.
As far as we are concerned, he said, the stricter they are at this facility, the better.
We would like to see these guys put out of the market, because they are a black mark for the road transport industry.
