Ship repair company Elgin Brown and Hamer (EBH) Namibia announced on Tuesday that its newly acquired Panamax-sized third floating dock in the port of Walvis Bay, known as ‘Namdock 3’, had been commissioned and was now fully operational, according to the Namibian press.
A press statement on the EBH Namibia website says this dock has “important strategic implications not only for the company but for Namibia as whole”. CEO of EBH, Hannes Uys said: “The new dock will increase our ability to service the local and international shipping industry by 60%.”
According to the statement, the Panamax floating dock is 195 metres long and will be able to serve vessels of up to 190 metres in length and 33metres in beam, increasing dry docking capacity by 15 000 tons.
