Amendments to the National Road Traffic Act came into force on Saturday (September 1) requiring that all vehicle owners have their vehicles microdotted or verify that the vehicles have microdot identification. According to the Road Freight Association (RFA) the new provision mean that all new and second-hand vehicles registered after September 1 must be fitted with microdots. In addition, the Second Hands Goods Act of 2009 which governs the handling of second hand (used goods), also stipulates under Regulation 24 (1) (2) (d), that dealers need to keep a second hands goods register and record all its particulars; including its microdot identification. All vehicles presented for a police clearance after September 1 will also be required to be fitted with a microdot or have its microdot identification verified.
