EXPORTERS TO the USA should not speculate on the extension of the Generalised Systesms of Preference scheme for exports which was suspended on May 31 this year.

The USA Congress has informed its offices that they are under not obligation to reauthorise the GSP programme and there are no guarantees that duties will be refunded retroactively if GSP is reinstated.

The Cape Chamber of Commerce says that USA importers who are interested in a possible reimbursement have been advised to continue to mark an A next to the product classification number on the entry document and state on the commercial invoice that the product is of the origin of a GSP country.
