The newly upgraded R44 between Wellington and Paarl is officially open.
Construction of the R190 million road commenced in June 2017 as part of the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works’ commitment to delivering quality transport infrastructure.
The upgrade included widening the road and improvements to the geometric alignment of the road.
“In addition to roadworks, which include road-markings, road signs, guardrails, fencing, kerbing and street lighting, several structural improvements to various bridges and culverts were also made,” said Ntomboxolo Makoba-Somdaka, spokesperson for the Western Cape’s MEC for transport and public works, Bonginkosi Madikizela.
