Turkey Launches Grinding Balls Safeguard Investigation

Publish Date:
18 Oct 2021

On 13 October 2021, Turkey notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) Committee on Safeguards that on 09 October 2021 it had initiated a safeguard investigation on grinding balls and similar articles for mills, classifiable in tariff subheadings 7325.91.00.00.00, and 7326.11.00.00.00.

Interested parties are required to fill in the questionnaires and submit them to the General Directorate, within 30 days from the date of publication of the notification. It should be noted that interested parties may ask for technical assistance from the investigating authority while filling out the questionnaires.

What is a safeguard investigation?

A safeguard investigation seeks to determine whether increased imports of a product are causing, or are threatening to cause, serious injury to a domestic industry.

During a safeguard investigation, importers, exporters and other interested parties may present evidence and views and respond to the presentations of other parties.

A WTO member may take a safeguard action (i.e. restrict imports of a product temporarily) only if the increased imports of the product are found to be causing, or threatening to cause, serious injury.
