THE HIGHEST overload on a truck recorded to date on KwazuluNatal Midlands highways has resulted in a Gauteng freight company having one of its vehicles
suspended from transport duties and the owner now facing prosecution.
Traffic officials at the Midway base pulled the vehicle off
the road for inspection and found it to be overloaded
by 18,6 tons.
The tyres of the truck and trailers were described to be in 'an appalling condition,' although it carried papers showing it had passed a roadworthy in Gauteng just 10 days beforehand.
The driver was arrested and released on bail of R500.
