Cross-border road freight operators in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) have been notified that the online payment system of hinterland transport facilitator Korridor is once again fully operational.
That’s according to Mike Fitzmaurice, chief executive of the Federation of East and Southern African Road Transport Associations (Fesarta).
The reinstatement of Korridor’s service followed intervention by Fesarta with the relevant government channels in the SADC region, Fitzmaurice said.
Speaking to members of the Transit Assistance Bureau (Transist), Fitzmaurice said: “Those of you who are already clients of Korridor are kindly requested to make use of this cashless system to pay all border crossing fees at all Zambian border posts and toll gates within Zambia.”
He said this was preferable to having drivers use hard currency for the payment of inland toll fees and cross-border charges.
More importantly, Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) will no longer be accepting cash payments at their borders.
“Only when there are network issues and the system is down will they accept cash.”
He said it was highly recommended that transporters sign up for Korridor’s cashless payment system.
Asked on the Transist WhatsApp group whether this included carbon taxes, Fitzmaurice said: “At this stage, it is only the dollar charges or RTSA (Road Transport and Safety Agency) road tolls.
“They are working with ZRA to get the carbon tax and the council levies onto the system shortly and I will advise once that goes live.”
