April saw a 2.7% month-on-month improvement in on-time vessel schedule reliability - clocking 60.7%.
Seven of the 12 trade lanes reviewed showed some improvement, according to a new report by global shipment management solutions company CargoSmart, which analysed the schedule reliability of 22 ocean carriers across 13 trade lanes. Included in the survey for the first time was the Europe-Africa trade lane.
The report found that schedule reliability of six of the 13 trade lanes had deteriorated from March to April this year, with intra-Asia trade the worst loser (down 10.5%).
The Europe-Middle East trade saw the biggest reliability gains, increasing by 22.7% from 44.4% in March 2018 to 67.1% in April while the North America-Oceania trade maintained the highest reliability among all 13 trade lanes.
CargoSmart’s analysis showed deterioration in the schedule reliability of only four of the 22 carriers. The top five most reliable carriers were Safmarine, Wan Hai, CNC, ANL and CMA CGM with an average on-time performance of 73.8%, 69.2%, 67.4%, 66.5% and 66.4% respectively.
