MSC subsidiary, Terminal Investment Limited (TIL), has been awarded the concession to run the Walvis Bay container terminal. This is significant because MSC will call more often on the port, which will make the Walvis Bay Corridors more attractive. One of the driving forces behind the shift away from dependence on South Africa has been the Walvis Bay Corridor Group.A partnership between government agencies and the private sector, it is a model of how corridor secretariats can inf luence the f low of freight. It is supported by the Namibian government, which has recognised the importance of logistics and made it central to plans for economic development. All these developments are positive for the region.Having port options has given importers and exporters greater f lexibility and control over their own businesses. It has opened up the world, with ports connecting them directly to the industrialised west, South America and Asia.As always, it is both challenging and exciting to be in Africa
