WITH THE latest buzz-word in the industry being “accreditation”, software specialist Ship-Shape has risen to the occasion, encouraging its clients to become accredited, says managing member Christina du Barry. “But there seems to be a lot of confusion among agents with regard to being accredited, and being able to send EDI. “The bottom line is that you do not have to be accredited in order to send EDI, you merely need to be registered with SARS as a trading partner. All that is involved is to fill in an application form and sign an electronic communications agreement. “Thereafter you are entitled to submit various documents in electronic format to SARS, such as bills of entry (imports and exports), sea freight manifests (containerised or break-bulk cargo), and so on.”
