All interested parties are invited to comment on an investigation into the proposed increase in the rate of customs duty on sewing threads of man-made filaments, whether or not put up for retail sale, from free of customs duty to 15% ad valorem. The application was lodged by Southern Sewing Thread (Pty) Ltd trading as ACA Thread. The stated reason for the application is that the product is currently manufactured within the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) region therefore a 15% ad valorem rate of customs duty to assist the sewing thread industry is considered necessary, against low priced imports. Comment is due by 18 February 2011.
