Schedule reliability – the shocking reality

Schedule reliability has plummeted to an all-time low, according to the latest Global Liner Performance report compiled by Sea-Intelligence, with August recording a mere 33.6%.

Reliability has hovered between 35%-40% for most of the year – but the August figure is an all-time record since the maritime consultancy started tracking schedule reliability 10 years ago.

Year-on-year (y-o-y), August was -30.1 percentage points lower than last year, continuing the trend of y-o-y declines of over -30.0 percentage points in each month in 2021 so far.

The average delay for late vessel arrivals continued to deteriorate, increasing by 0.58 days m-o-m to 7.57 days in August.

Maersk Line was once again the most reliable top-14 carrier at 45.6%, followed by Hamburg Süd at 38.0%.

Another three carriers were placed in the 30%-40% range, with only three at 20%-30%.

Six were below 20%, with Evergreen recording the lowest figure of just 11.5%.

HMM was the only improver, moving up 1.6 percentage points, while no carrier recorded a y-o-y improvement.

The report covers 34 different trade lanes and 60+ carriers. This is a truncated version covering the global highlights.
