Members of the South African Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (Satawu) are set to go on strike on February 13, Satawu president John Dube told FTW Online yesterday. It would be a national strike involving all union members and it would last indefinitely, he said.
“The decision to strike comes after much deliberation,” he added. “Negotiations with the road freight industry broke down in November already. The strike was inevitable as we could not come to any agreement.”
He said the three other unions involved in the negotiations - MTWU, PTWU and TAWUSA -would be invited to join in the strike action.
