On 27 February 2024, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) confirmed that the President requested the SARS Commissioner to stay beyond his current term, which was meant to expire on 30 April 2024. Both parties agreed to the extension of his term as SARS Commissioner for a period of two (2) years.
The decision was premised on the understanding that the extended term will allow SARS to further embed the SARS strategic intent and transformation on which the organisation embarked in 2019.
