RAY SMUTS IN THE interests of maintaining fluidity in the Cape Town container terminal, particularly over Easter, South African Port Operations has advised clients that cleared and uncleared containers will be moved to a licensed depot should the need arise. “Import stack capacity is of critical importance to keep the terminal fluid,” key account manager Richard van Schalkwyk told FTW. He says it will also be of help if transhipment containers could be planned to move through the terminal with the minimum dwell time, wherever possible. In addition to uncleared containers being moved to a licensed container depot, clients are urged to advise their respective importers to take delivery of their cleared cargo, failing which it will be moved to a licensed depot at the line/agent’s expense.
