The Durban-based local distribution and long-haul cartage specialist, SA Inland Logistics (Sail), has now unified its entire operation under one roof on the South Coast Road in Mobeni. According to marketing director, Gerald Naidu, amalgamating the operation, previously split between two sites, has significantly streamlined the management’s operational control and administration. “This is an exciting development for us as we have our cartage division, customer service team and head office under one umbrella,” he told FTW. Added to that, the new site also boasts a 2 500m² warehouse – allowing the company to add a storage facility to its product line, and to offer container packing/unpacking as an additional service. “We have already started unpacking our first few containers,” Naidu said, “which went very well. This allows us to offer our clients a more varied service offering.” And he described the response and feedback from clients that have visited the site as very positive. “The new depot also allows us to house our fleet of local trucks and trailers that move import and export container traffic in and out of the port and other depots in Durban – handling a full range of cargoes including hazardous, reefer, abnormal and overweight traffic. “It also offers full loading/unloading and parking facilities for the fleet of long-distance trucks at our disposal, and engaged in the movement of container and breakbulk traffic throughout the country – again covering hazardous, reefer, abnormal and overweight traffic.” The new premises also have an on-site control room, with all SAIL’s vehicles – both local and long-distance – fully fitted with the latest in electronic tracking devices. “We are also still offering a rail transport product for a few niche markets which use the rail mode, but project cargoes are the biggest buzz of the moment – and one that we think will offer an interesting addition to our product portfolio,” Naidu said.
