SACU Trade Facilitation Director

The Southern African Customs Union (Sacu) has called for applications for the position of director: trade facilitation and revenue management, which are due by 04 October.

The main purpose of the job is to implement the Sacu agreement objectives regarding trade facilitation, trade liberalisation, revenue sharing, economic integration, enhanced economic development, diversification, industrialisation and competitiveness; and promotion of the integration of member states into the global economy through enhanced trade and investment.

Key Areas of Responsibility include:

  • Implements the SACU Revenue Sharing Formula in accordance with the 2002 Sacu Agreement.
  • Manages trade data and maintains records of payments into and out of the Common Revenue pool.
  • Develops policy proposals, technical and administrative procedures related to the management of the Sacu Revenue pool.
  • Coordinates the preparation of economic policy briefs as well as reports on the performance of the Sacu economies.
  • Undertakes macro-economic analysis to facilitate the application of the Sacu Revenue Sharing Formula.
  • Develops technical and administrative procedures in the key areas related to the management of the Sacu Revenue Sharing Formula.
  • Maintains records to ensure that the Sacu trade and revenue agreements are correctly applied, and Member States disputes are avoided.
  • Develops policy proposals and regional programmes on trade facilitation including those related to the implementation of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Agreement on Trade Facilitation.
  • Facilitates work towards harmonisation of customs and excise legislation and implements the Sacu Council of Minister’s decisions in this regard.
  • Supports and monitors the implementation of Sacu Tariff Policy and agreements.
  • Develops policy proposals to address and prevent unfair trading practices in Sacu member states.
