On 04 November 2022, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) announced an amendment to Part 1 of Schedule No.1 to the Customs and Excise Act, 1964 “Ordinary Customs Duty” to give effect to the phase down of the rates of duty for 2023, in terms of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPAs) between the European Union (EU) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) States and the EU as well as the EPA between the SACU Member States and Mozambique and the United Kingdom (UK) of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, with effect from 01 January 2023.
