The Department of Trade and Industry (dti) will lead 24 companies to the Gulfood 2019 Exhibition in Dubai from Sunday to Thursday next week.

Spokesperson for the dti, Sidwell Medupi, said the companies had received financial support to participate in the fair from the department through its Export Marketing and Investment Assistance (EMIA) Scheme.

Gulfood brings together exporters, importers, distributors, retailers, wholesalers, food producers and restaurateurs. The exhibition draws about 5 000 exhibitors and more than 100 000 visitors from 120 countries annually

Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies, said that participating at Gulfood 2019 provided a platform for  South African companies to showcase their capabilities in the food and non-alcoholic beverage sectors, whilst highlighting the various investment opportunities that South Africa has to offer.

“The recent state visit to the United Arab Emirates by president Cyril Ramaphosa has elevated the trade and investment relationship between the two countries and presented additional opportunities for South African companies to collaborate with the UAE in respect of increasing trade and investment, capacity building and exchange of expertise,” said Davies.
