PORT ELIZABETH Container terminal has started the year with a new cargo handling record for January. The container terminal handled 28 041 TEUS (twenty foot equivalent units) compared to the previous record of 25 913 handled in 1999. The increased volume is a result of ships diverting from Cape Town And Durban. The high volumes were handled without additional resources, according to container terminal manager Denny Reddy.
