Zambian company Woodgate Holdings Limited has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Italian Wegh Group to launch a railway sleeper factory in Zambia.

The factory will be established at Chambeshi Multi-Facility Economic Zone (MFEZ) on the Copperbelt.

According to the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA), the two companies will invest U$15 million in the railway sleepers manufacturing plant which will create 300 direct jobs.

Discussions between the two companies began in July last year and the signing of the MoU shows investor confidence in Zambian-owned companies and the Zambian economy, says the ZDA.
