Railway operator set to double previous rail capacity

Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (Tazara) is set to move about 380 000 tonnes of cargo by June 2017, more than double its previous capacity, said a senior official quoted in the local press.

The railway line links the port of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania with the town of Kapiri Mposhi in Zambia’s Central Province.

Built from 1970 to 1975, the single-track railway is 1 860 kilometres long.

Triple jump in airline’s profits

For the first time, Qatar Airways Group, parent company of the Doha-based airline, has released its financial results.

In these, the group reported a whopping 328% jump in net profits at its airline operations.

The carrier, owned by the government of Qatar, posted a net profit of the equivalent of just less than R6.3 billion for the financial year to March 31.

This was up from the marginally under R1.5bn recorded for the previous year.
