Doha hub provides global links

ALAN PEAT
FROM JANUARY 17 next year, Qatar Airways launches a four-flights-a-week service on the run between Johannesburg/Cape Town and Doha airports.
It will offer the service with the cargo-friendly Airbus A330 aircraft, with flights scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, airline area manager Rashid Mordiffi told FTW.
The on-going global air links from Qatar are also extensive with the airline using its home-base at Doha as a hub for flights to Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, and the Indian sub-continent - with Australia and USA due to join the list of destinations next year.
“We fly to most of the major cities in Europe,” Mordiffi said, “with flights to London (both Heathrow and Gatwick airports), Paris, Frankfurt, Rome, Milan, Manchester, Munich, Vienna and Zurich.”
Qatar Airways has cold storage and special perishable cargo handling facilities in Doha. To enable agents to monitor the status of their shipments, the airline also provides an on-line tracking system through its website www.qatarairways.com.
It also has a freighter operation, using a Doha-based Airbus A300-600 freighter aircraft.
