Saco Shipping has reinforced its position as a reliable logistics partner for Zimbabwe, with its weekly consolidation and dedicated services achieving consistent success, according to Natasha Lawrence-Ramiah, Johannesburg ocean and road freight manager. “We did not miss a single loading throughout 2024. Zimbabwe remains one of our strongest offerings to the market,” she told Freight News. This performance comes amid a surge in demand for efficient logistics solutions in and out of the country. The increased trade volumes between South Africa and Zimbabwe ref lect the economic interdependence of the two nations. Lawrence-Ramiah said as businesses seek reliable logistics partners to ensure seamless supply chain operations, the spotlight was on providers like Saco Shipping to deliver timely and dependable services.“Road freight has become particularly significant as businesses prioritise timely delivery and cost efficiency,” she said. “Additionally, Zimbabwe’s ongoing efforts to upgrade and maintain key transport routes are creating opportunities for more streamlined logistics operations. Improvements in road conditions, including reduced transit times and lower vehicle maintenance costs, are contributing to a safer and more efficient logistics landscape. As infrastructure improves, logistics companies are better equipped to handle increased cargo volumes from South Africa.”Despite the positive outlook, challenges remain. Persistent border delays and complex customs clearance processes continue to test the resilience of logistics providers. Additionally, Zimbabwe’s road infrastructure, while improving, still faces issues such as inadequate signage and poorly maintained routes, increasing transit times and operational costs. “These challenges present opportunities for innovation and growth,” said Lawrence-Ramiah. “Companies that can adapt to changing market conditions, invest in technology and offer competitive pricing are well-positioned to thrive in this dynamic environment.”She said Zimbabwe offered a wealth of opportunities for those prepared to navigate its complex landscape. “As trade relations grow, infrastructure improves and demand for goods rises, logistics providers have a chance to expand their operations and tap into a f lourishing market. By leveraging these opportunities and embracing innovation, businesses can play a pivotal role in shaping the future of road freight cargo into Zimbabwe and the broader southern African region.”Lawrence-Ramiah said they were optimistic in their outlook for Zimbabwe. “While our volumes to and from Zimbabwe remain consistent, we see room for growth and are looking forward to further developments in 2025.” LV
