On 26 May 2026, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) advised that the Prohibited and Restricted Imports and Exports List had been updated with the following tariff subheadings, which are to be detained for the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) and subject to a Letter of Authority (LoA) in the instance of imports:
- 85.01 Electrical motors and generators (excluding generating sets):
- 8501.40 Other AC motors, single-phase
- 8501.51.90 Other AC motors, multi-phase: Of an output not exceeding 750 W: Other
- 8501.52.90 Other AC motors, multi-phase: Of an output exceeding 750 W but not exceeding 75 kW: Other
- 8501.53.90 Other AC motors, multi-phase: Of an output exceeding 75 kW: Other
- 8503.00.90 Parts suitable for use solely or principally with the machines of heading 85.01 or 85.02: Other
- 8539.51 Electric filament or discharge lamps, including sealed beam lamp units and ultra-violet or infra-red lamps; arc-lamps; light-emitting diode (LED) light sources: Light-emitting diode (LED) light sources: Light-emitting diode (LED) modules
- 8539.52.10 Light-emitting diode (LED) light sources: Light-emitting diode (LED) lamps: Of the screw-in, bayonet or similar types
- 8539.52.90 Light-emitting diode (LED) light sources: Light-emitting diode (LED) lamps: Other
