Ports Regulator calls for timeous tariff submissions

The Ports Regulator has called on industry to make timeous submissions on the tariff process to ensure the input is considered.
“We welcome the input from the industry but it is extremely important that submissions arrive at our office on time. We have a very short period of time to make a decision and therefore we need the documentation in hand to make a decision within the time frame,” said the organisation’s CEO Riad Khan.
He also called for as much supporting information as well as indications of where the information was found to allow the regulator to test the information provided.
“Every year we receive a large number of late submissions and they are not taken into account in the tariff process. The National Ports Authority has a deadline as well and their request for tariff adjustments must reach our office prior to August 1 every year.”
According to Khan, the Regulator has only about four months to make a tariff decision, which is not a lot of time when one considers the large volume of documentation that has to be considered in the process.
He said submissions also have to be submitted in writing - be it electronically, by hand or post.
