BAX NOMVETE, who recently resigned as Durban port manager, is not to be replaced. Nor is former Cape Town port manager Neels Hubinger, whose position has not been filled since he left two years ago to join the Perishable Products Export Control Board.
The position of port manager at South African ports has been discontinued in the restructuring process of harbour control, and all non-marine activities will now be in the hands of port operations managers, says Portnet m.d. Rob Childs.
The general managers for the ports will act as port operations managers in both instances until permanent appointments are made, says Childs.
Glen Martin and Basil Ndlovu have already been appointed port operations managers in Richards Bay and Saldanha respectively.
Portnet has also announced the appointment of the last three general managers in its restructured management. They are Sylvester Haanyama (finance), Mdu Nene (marine) and Pumi Sithole (marketing). They join Siyabonga Gama, Ronnie Kingwill, Gert de Beer, Patrick Dada and Jan Jansen who were appointed previously.
Port operations managers will now report directly to one of the two general managers responsible for ports. In this respect Jansen is
in charge of eastern ports (Richards Bay, Durban and East London), while Kingwill manages western ports (Port Elizabeth, Cape Town and Saldanha).
Portnet gets its ducks in a row
