IT'S AN unusually busy time of the year for the RMS (Royal Mail Ship) St Helena - as she spends the festive month as a cruise ship and a freight liner, serving the needs of the Governor's Cup yacht race between Cape Town-and-St Helena.
After she acted as starting ship for the race on December 2, she sailed chock-a-block with 128 passengers for the south Atlantic island, according to St Helena Lines manager, Carolyn Ellis - as she transported the friends and relatives of the yacht crews to watch the finish of the race.
When she sets sail for the return voyage to Cape Town on December 22, the St Helena adopts her freighter role with an expected cargo load of nine of the race yachts.
Her second trip will see her returning from St Helena on January 17 with the remaining passengers and another two yachts as deck cargo.
