This Certificate Course in Customs and Excise Taxes presented by the University of Pretoria offers an opportunity for individuals with prior formal education or experience in taxation to acquire a basic knowledge of customs and excise taxes in a South African context. The course is aimed at all tax professionals, entrepreneurs and public sector employees commencing with import and/or export activities.
Course Content: The following topics are covered in the course: (i) The international customs and excise environment; (ii) The South African customs and excise environment; (ii) The import and export processes; (iv) Customs and excise taxes as a cost component; (v) An overview of the key pillars of customs and excise taxes, namely classification, valuation and origin; and (vi) Managing risks relating to customs and excise taxes.
Entry Requirements: Delegates need to have relevant practical tax-related experience; or have completed taxation as a third year course in final year of a degree or diploma completed within the last five years.
Articulation: (i) BCom (Honours) Degree in Taxation: This course represents 3 credits of the 160 required credits for the BCom (Honours) Degree in Taxation presented by the University of Pretoria. (ii) Tax Professional Qualification: This course is also a building block towards the Knowledge and Practical Skills components of the Tax Professional Qualification.
