The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) has put the motor industry front and centre of its latest call for compliance with the relevant compulsory regulations.
“We are committed to rooting out products that do not comply to protect consumers against unsafe and harmful products,” a spokesman said.
“Manufacturers, importers and builders of motor vehicles (MIBs) and regulated automotive components have an obligation to manufacture, import or build motor vehicles and their components in accordance with the provisions of the relevant specifications as well as the National Road Traffic Regulations,” the spokesman added.
Whether a motor vehicle is manufactured locally or outside the borders of South Africa, the approval process applies.
And where a commodity is found to be non-compliant, unless corrective action is taken, the product will either be confiscated, returned to the country of origin or destroyed, and penalties may be imposed.
