New product offers interactive insurance via the Internet

A NEW web site which enables freight forwarders to handle their marine cargo insurance needs interactively via the Internet has just been launched in South Africa.
Developed by the International Lloyd's Brokerage Group, Swire Blanch, the product is already in use
in Europe and the US. Johannesburg-based Dalys & Associates has exclusive rights to it in South Africa.
Its easy-to-operate design leads the user through each step with a series of prompts, as a demonstration by consultants Johan Louw and Susan Bester illustrated to FTW.
It provides immediate on-line interactive rate indications and the terms and conditions which apply.
Once participating, you would be allocated with an access code and password to allow entry into the web site, enabling you to provide your clients with instant service when confronted with special quotations or unusual insurance requests, Louw told FTW.
Cover can be immediate and the relevant insurance certificates processed by you at the same time.
Billing is automatic via e-mail and access to marine surveyors and loss adjusters is instantaneous.
And all prospective clients need is access to the Internet and an e-mail address.
After receipt of the monthly statement via e-mail at the end of each month, the client will have 20 days in which to remit the premium to the underwriters, this payment to be made only by wire transfer, said Bester.
In Cape Town, Mac Houghton is marketing the product.
