New hijacking ploy on N14 highway

There’s been an increase in the number of cars and trucks being hijacked on the N14 highway and surrounding offramps over the past month according to Community Police Forum chairman  Jorncy Page. “This flags the fact we all have to be more vigilant and careful while on the road as criminals are constantly inventing new strategies to dupe and rob drivers and vehicle owners.

“The latest hijacking pattern in Muldersdrift usually involves three vehicles,” he said.  “The first two vehicles point out a “problem” with your car or truck as they drive past - the aim being to get you to pull over. When you do pull over to check your vehicle, the drivers of a third vehicle, which would have been following behind you, then hijack your truck or car.”

Page warns drivers not to fall prey to this new ploy. He says patrols were increased near the Lion Park but now the incidents seem to have moved closer to Beyers Naude and Cradlestone Mall.   “Please don’t pull over if this happens to you. If someone does point out a problem with your car while on the road, drive to the nearest petrol station or Police Station and then check your car safely.”
