Municipality deploys drone technology to track progress of transport system

The drone being deployed by the municipality is a DJI Phantom 4 Pro.

A North West municipality is deploying drones to track progress of its Rustenburg Rapid Transport (RRT) system which is currently in development

The RRT system will feature two Bus Rapid Transport corridors and a traffic management centre.

“The use of technology is crucial to service delivery. The drones are currently being used to map the landscape of the RRT, and have proven most efficient,” said Olga Ribeiro, Rustenburg municipality’s executive director of marketing. Remote pilots launch a drone from key points along the route, flying it to a height of around 300 metres and taking photographs to measure progress of the RRT.
