Motorists cautioned after four trucks torched on N3

Truck set alight on the N3, Ortmann Road.

The N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) has urged motorists to opt for daytime travel where possible following the recent disruptive protests and criminal incidents along the N3 route over the weekend.

“It is advised to rather plan long-distance trips during daylight hours,” said N3TC commercial manager Con Roux.

At least four trucks were set alight along the N3 between Mooi River and Pietermaritzburg in Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN) over the weekend.

It is suspected that two trucks were petrol bombed while travelling to Johannesburg.

According to the KZN Road Traffic Inspectorate, the freeway had to be closed for at least six hours.

None of the drivers were injured.

Transport minister Fikile Mbalula today attended the Inter Ministerial Committee meeting for the on-going truck violence.

According to the N3TC traffic update this morning, the N3 toll route from Cedara to Heidelberg is clear and traffic is flowing.
