Merger creates Maersk Logistics

AS PART of a global name-change, the former Mercantile Distribution is now trading under the name, Maersk Logistics (Southern Africa).
This is related to the recent merger of Sealand Logistics and Mercantile - which both now fall into the Maersk stable as part of the AP Moller group of Denmark.
By combining the strength of the two companies, said Mark Cairns, g.m. of Maersk Logistics in Johannesburg, we will offer customers a wider reach in terms of locations, services and capacities.
But the name change will in no way affect the customer relationships we have already established under the Mercantile banner.
Also, while now carrying the Maersk name, the logistics operation is totally independent of the shipping line arm of the business.
We contract most of our business from lines outside the group, Cairns told FTW, retain our own autonomous management, and report directly to the Moller head office in Copenhagen.
