THE MANAGEMENT contract for the new ferrochrome terminal in Maputo has been awarded to Naval-Serviços á Navegação Lda. The first phase of the facility was completed and officially inaugurated in October 2004. Running the new terminal has represented a challenge for the Maputo-based company, but it has so far received very positive feedback from current and prospective customers on the quality and standard of service on offer, says general manager Luis Goncalves But after a difficult trading year, due to the impact of the weakened US dollar against the local Mozambican Metical, compounded by inflation, he remains optimistic about the potential growth in volumes at the Port of Maputo. Despite the difficult times, the company has in the last year invested a further $150 000 in equipment, and is well positioned, given the opportunity, to make further investments to meet the challenges of the future, he concluded.
