On 09 October the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development called for comment on its intention to register Karoo Lamb/Karoo Lam as a South African Geographical Indication (GI), which is due by 08 November.
According to the Notice the Executive Officer of the Agricultural Product Standards intends to register Karoo Lamb/ Karoo Lam for The Karoo Lamb Consortium (NPC) as a South African Geographical Indication (GI) in terms of the Regulations relating to the protection of GIs used on agricultural products intended for sale in South Africa.
