JAPANESE FOOD aid into Africa is big business for forwarder Nippon Express, which is fast developing its SA hub for overborder cargo.
The company, which re-established a representative office in November last year under g.m. Masaaki Hayashida, celebrates it half-year milestone with the arrival this week in South Africa of Japan-based vice president Masaki Konishi.
"In view of the increased transit cargo moving to other African countries, we felt it was imperative to establish a representative office in Johannesburg," Hayashida told FTW.
Last October, Japanese donor wheat shipped in from the USA and Australia was railed in 195 containers in five special trains at four-day intervals to Zimbabwe for road transport to Malawi.
