A CHARITY off-road adventure organised by the clearing and forwarding industry has raised
R4.4-million for a special fund dedicated to saving the rhinoceros population in East Africa, according to Jade da Costa, one of the team leaders in the event and MD of Intraspeed – one of its main organisers. Of the total, his company raised R150 000 from its clients in SA and Kenya. The money from Rhino Charge 2005 is to go towards the completion of the fencing at Aberdares National Park – a major game reserve in Kenya. “It’s a fun event, with each of the sponsored company entrants there to take part in this off-road safari,” said Da Costa, “but with the background intent of raising money for this worthy charity.” He captained the “Killer Bees” team in car number 57. Of the 60 entrants in Rhino Charge 2005, only 22 managed to finish the gruelling course. “I am happy to say that we finished 20th overall, and 10th in our unmodified class,” Da Costa told FTW.
