German-based transportation company Hapag-Lloyd yesterday opened a new office in Tema, Ghana.

“Africa is strongly developing just now. To benefit from this growth, it’s important for us to strengthen our presence in Ghana with our own office – and to get even closer to our local customers,” said Hapag-Lloyd Middle East region senior managing director, Lars Christiansen.

“On top of that, with our new East Africa service, we have entered a new trade which will connect Africa more closely to our global network.”

He emphasised the importance of the port city as a major port expansion project – to be completed by mid-2019 – would see capacity boosted from one to three million TEUs at the Port of Tema.
