Namport has reported an increase in volumes through Walvis Bay over the 12 months ended March 31.yTotal cargo handled amounted to 6.5 million tons, an increase of 380 541 tons or (6%).yRevenue grew by 9%.The increase in volumes was mainly due to the following:yVessel visits increased by 289 or 22%. The gross tonnage increased by 3.4 million tons.yWalvis Bay handled 168 278 TEUs, of which 61 106 TEUs (36%) were exports, 69 467 (41%) were imports, and 37 705 (22%) were transhipments.yThere was an 8% growth in TEUs (12 298 units). This was mainly due to increased containerised commodities such as copper, charcoal, frozen fish, marble, frozen poultry, sugar, chemicals, scrap steel, and wooden products.yC ross-border volumes increased by 10% from 1 464 000 gross tons during the 2020/2021 financial year to 1 606 984 gross tons during the 2021/2022 financial year.yCross-border market share: South Africa 48%, Zambia 23%, DRC 15%, Zimbabwe 6%, Botswana 6%, Angola 2% and Ma law i 1%.yMajor commodities exported from SADC countries through Namibia: copper, manganese ore, and wooden products (timber).yMajor commodities imported to Namibia destined to SADC countries: frozen poultry, vehicles on own wheels, machinery, spare parts, tyres, chemicals for mining use, electrical goods, electrical equipment and malt.yThere was a 9% growth in bulk and breakbulk volumes (by 360 189 tons to 4.4 million tons)
